Make a Difference this GivingTuesday

What Is GivingTuesday

GivingTuesday is a global movement based on radical generosity that inspires people to make giving a central theme in everyday life. Throughout the year, millions of individuals and hundreds of organizations send donations, give gifts, volunteer time, and advocate for marginalized communities to create a better future.

In 2012, the concept GivingTuesday was conceived at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. The idea was simple: designate one day of the year to encourage people to do a little good.

What started as a small seed has grown into a powerful movement.

Since its founding 10 years ago, GivingTuesday has become a full-fledged nonprofit organization with a mission to unleash radical generosity across the globe. In 2021, GivingTuesday raised $2.7 billion on November 30th in the U.S. alone and saw official movements in 80 countries with over 260 organizations participating worldwide.

GivingTuesday operates on a Nucleus Model. The center of the nucleus, the GivingTuesday nonprofit organization, provides tools and resources for unaffiliated community-driven movements to use for creating their own GivingTuesday campaigns.

Campaigns are often identified by their hashtags, like the #ReadTogether campaign, which was created by GiveTuesdaySpark Philippines to encourage kids to grab a book and read to someone. The ReDefiners World languages campaign uses #GivingTuesday #ReDefinersWL to raise awareness and funds for language learning opportunities for children.

When Is GivingTuesday

The date of GivingTuesday 2022 is November 29th.

GivingTuesday takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, meaning that it falls on the fourth Tuesday of November or the first Tuesday of December.

Although GivingTuesday is officially a single day, the movement promotes giving, building community connections, and encouraging collective action all year long. By incorporating radical generosity into your life, whether by helping out a neighbor or giving to a cause you believe in, you help improve the world’s collective future.

Why ReDefiners World Languages Is Taking Part In GivingTuesday

Like in previous years, ReDefiners World Languages will participate in GivingTuesday to raise awareness for equitable education opportunities and fund our growing movement.

As a community-based organization, we aim to equip and empower individuals in the U.S. to become multilingual global citizens. We help families and children access educational opportunities because we believe that education promotes higher academic achievement; social, cultural, and character development that leads to increased career opportunities.

We are asking for your help this Giving Tuesday. Our organization runs on community support, and we need your generosity to continue making an impact on children and families through language learning and social change.

Every donation counts, no matter how big or small. The money we receive goes towards buying supplies for classes and funding our operations. For as little as $25, you can provide supplies for a class for a year. This enables our teachers to focus on teaching and helping students succeed.
