ReDefiners Program Update

At ReDefiners World Languages, we’ve kicked off 2022 with a bang. We’re continuing several community programs and adding new ones. Today, we wanted to provide updates for two of our programs, the grocery giveaway and community yard sales.

Community Yard Sales

Starting this year, ReDefiners will be offering twice-monthly yard sales as a way to fundraise for our programs and outreach to the local community. This is the perfect opportunity to clear out your closets and get good bargains on the things you need, all while supporting our mission to offer free educational opportunities to families and children in need. We will sell items donated by the local community, such as clothing, shoes, electronics, bikes, small furniture pieces, books, art, toys, household items, sports equipment, and much more! Each yard sale will have different items available for purchase. If you’re interested in donating items, please bring the items to the ReDefiners’ office any time from 10 AM- 3 PM Monday through Thursday.

Our Community Yard Sales are an excellent way to find inexpensive goods and support our mission.

At each sale, we will also have space for up to 10 vendors. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your business into the Tampa community because many already come to our sales ready to shop. Each vendor slot costs $25, and you must bring your own table and chairs. To apply to become a vendor, click here.

Volunteers are also needed for each of these events from 8:15 AM- 1:45 PM. To become a volunteer for our next event, click here.

The yard sales will be held every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 9 AM-1PM at 8056 N. 56th, Tampa, FL 33617.

Grocery Giveaways

At ReDefiners, we’re committed to addressing the short-term and long-term needs of our community. Our mission is to promote social change, create equity in educational opportunities, and provide competitive advantages to youth and adults. We’ve seen the benefits of foreign language classes and cultural enrichment opportunities. However, it is hard to experience these benefits if basic needs are left unmet.

Our grocery giveaways now include allergy-friendly food!

Therefore, we’re supporting our community by resuming our drive-through grocery giveaways. These events are held on the first and third Thursdays of each month. In addition to groceries, we also partner with local businesses and organizations to give out extra items. In the past, we’ve distributed information about healthcare plans, Covid-19 vaccines, and even free cell phones and lines of service to qualifying individuals.

Each bag of food contains a variety of healthy items, such as fresh produce, bread, peanut butter, and rice. And starting this year, we will offer allergy-friendly foods! Due to a limited supply, these foods must be reserved ahead of time. If you or a member of your family has food allergies or Celiac Disease, please fill out the form at this link.

Our grocery giveaways are on the first and third Thursdays each month, from 11:30 AM- 1 PM at the ReDefiners Office located at 8056 N. 56th St., Tampa, FL 33617, on

HART Line: 6 -39. There are no income requirements or pre-qualifications to participate. We distribute food and other items on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure you get in line early.

To keep volunteers and participants safe, all food distributions are drive-through only. Participants will be required to stay in their vehicles, and volunteers will place the food in the trunk of their cars to avoid unnecessary contact.

Black Heritage Expo

Our annual Black Heritage Expo was on Saturday, February 26th, and it was a huge success! There were many noteworthy moments, as described by our founder and executive director, Chantelle Daniels:

The Black Heritage Expo was a riveting celebration of Black Culture, with heart thumping beats from the drums of West Africa, show stopping sounds from Motown renditions by local musicians and heartfelt songs by a local Gospel Choir. The Black Heritage Expo brought together 50 Black Owned Small business owners and local organizations to connect with hundreds of mall goers and community members as they shared their services and sold their wares. Local poets and authors spread their messages on stage and through conversations, attendees gained insight into the next steps for home ownership through an onsite workshop. Overall the event brought together diverse cultures through dance, music, clothing and positive messaging. It was noteworthy to have the President of the Chinese-American Association in attendance as a representative of the Sunshine Dance group, a Chinese performance group, showing their support and expression of unity through a live performance during the event. ReDefiners World Languages is thankful for continued community partnerships, including WestShore Plaza and Simply Healthcare as hosts and sponsors of the event.

The Kuumba Dancers and Drummers (pictured above) were a big hit with the audience. Based in Tampa, Florida, the organization provides presentations of authentic African music, folkdance, and storytelling to preserve these art forms for generations to come.
