Forge Connections and Explore Our Humanity with ReDefiners World Languages

Language is powerful. It gives you the ability to connect with others and communicate your hopes, desires, emotions, and experiences. It enables you to express your love and affection to your friends and family. It can even keep you healthy and safe by allowing you to understand what your doctor says and convey information in an emergency.

This is a picture of two caucasian girls sitting together by a playground. Both girls have long, straight brown hair, and they are looking at each other. The girl on the left is wearing a red, white and blue striped tank top, as well as a red skirt with navy blue polka dots. Her face can be seen. The girl on the right is wearing a white, short-sleeved shirt with a plaid pinafore. In the background is a jungle gym that is colored blue, green, red, black, and gray.
Do you know how powerful language can be?

In all of these examples, you use language to connect with your loved ones, advocate for yourself, and keep you connected to your identity. We often forget just how much our identity and humanity are intertwined with our language.

Now, imagine that you didn’t speak English. It would be hard to communicate with others. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you were hungry, but the restaurant waitstaff didn’t understand you. Imagine how confusing it would be to receive care instructions from your doctor that you didn’t understand. Imagine how scary it would be if you smelled smoke and everyone evacuated the building, but you couldn’t tell the firefighters that your child was trapped inside. Imagine how disconnected you would feel if your loved ones only spoke English.

This is a picture of a sad woman leaning by a tree. She's wearing a sweater and holding flowers, and she's staring off into the distance.
Language prevents loneliness.

Doesn’t that sound difficult? What if there was a way to make sure this didn’t happen? What if there was a way to help others, connect with them, and discover what makes us human?

At ReDefiners World Languages, we’re increasing the number of multilingual people in the United States. Our mission is to promote social change, create equity in educational opportunities, and provide a competitive advantage for youth and adults. We do this by offering language classes in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic. We offer classes online and in-person, and we also offer group and individual lessons. No matter your schedule or learning style, you can learn a language. We give you the tools that you need to connect with speakers of other languages.

You have the ability to help other people. You can show other people that you see them, you hear them, and you’re not going to let them slip through the cracks. By learning a language, you forge new connections with other people and cultures. By doing so, we can celebrate our differences, which help us celebrate our humanity.

This is a picture of seven people of different races crowded together. All are wearing cloth masks over their faces. There are three white women, one white man, one asian man, one asian woman, and one Black man.
You have the power to connect with others.

At ReDefiners, we offer language classes in Arabic, English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. Our classes are so much more than language classes. We help you to learn about the cultures that influence these languages as well.
