Our Story

Founded by a full-time educator, parent, and advocate for language learning, ReDefiners is a non-profit organization that prides itself in being a pioneer in the early language education programming in Hillsborough County. The organization is made up of qualified teachers, international student volunteers and business professionals who are passionate about language and cultural education. We offer language classes in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Spanish and English to children in PreK-5th grade.

We believe all children, regardless of background, are capable and deserving of language learning opportunities, language learning needs to begin before age 10, intercultural education and authentic relationships promote greater peace and in today’s society, and students need to become global citizens.

What We Do & Who We Serve

Summer Spanish Language Immersion & Technology Program

What:

The 2021 Summer Spanish Immersion & Technology Program is a 4-Week program open to K-5 grade students (ages 5-11) at the novice level of Spanish proficiency. This program requires $150 to get started with a $100 weekly tuition, income based program scholarships available to those who qualify. Those accepted will be among 20 students engaging in an immersive Spanish program with 120 hours of language and cultural enrichment that incorporates digital technology, including green screen technology, to virtually transport to Mexico and Spain,  participants will also build literacy skills, avoiding the “summer slide,”all preparing to be global citizens. The Spanish LIT program also incorporates fitness, art, computer coding, and robotics enrichment in addition to language programming. Upon completion of this program, participants are eligible to participate in continued courses throughout the school year through income-based pricing.

Children ages 5-11; entering 1st - 6th grade with no previous summer program experience, low-moderate household income

Global Citizens Program

What:

The Global Citizens Program  is an out-of-school-time program designed to create access to high-quality  literacy and character development enrichment programming that promotes academic and social success. The program is designed specifically for elementary students residing in the United States. After-school and Saturday programs are available for students in Tampa, FL while students nationwide gain access through our live virtual program with synchronous group sessions. The 6-level program is progressive and designed to be skill building throughout the fundamental period of cognitive and social development. Through world language class offerings in Arabic, Mandarin and Spanish, students pursue a learning path that promotes: Higher Academic Achievement

Student progress from Novice to Intermediate levels, designed using the natural and the communicative approach to learning. Our program has been designed putting children first by reflecting their lives, interests and aspirations. The units and lessons are designed to encourage constant recycling of previously learned content in a fun and meaningful way to promote ongoing communication and proficiency at each level as they learn to become confident and competent global citizens.

Academic Tutoring Program

What:

The Academic Tutoring program is an intervention program designed to ensure children are academically on level by the 3rd grade. Through in-home personalized support to families ReDefiners provides personalized 1:1 academic tutoring to children who have children who have been deemed at-risk of not meeting grade level requirements. The goal of the program is to bridge the gap in academic performance by providing strategies and resources to engage parents/caregivers while boosting confidence within students. Tutors are bilingual in English and one of the following languages: Spanish/Arabic/Swahili.

Children from low-moderate household income households, non-native English speaking households

Context: In-Person Programs

Live Virtual Program

What:

The Live Virtual Program is a fee-based language education program for learners across the United States and Globally. The program is a remote learning program with live synchronous group sessions designed to promote community, cultural competence and multilingualism. Through a series of progressive course offerings, students develop communication skills to help meet their goals, whether academic, personal or professional.

Available languages of study include: Arabic, English, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish.

Test Prep Courses for learners who wish to study or work in an English speaking country include the IELTS and TOEFL test preparation courses. Program features include:

  • Meet weekly face-to-face with your teacher and classmates in a virtual classroom in highly interactive, immersive and engaging sessions that are designed get students speaking quickly

  • Each class session is 60 minutes long (but feels much shorter) with lesson content available for review along with fun practice activities to reinforce learning between live sessions

  • Get FREE access to meet 1:1 with your teacher during Virtual Office Hours for extra support
